Travel Memories

Travel memories take many forms. Some people remember their first trip to a large city, while others remember their first time on an airplane. The changes in travel today compared to what they were 50 years are like night and day. With our super highways and vehicles that reach speeds well over one hundred miles per hour and the fast pace that this world has reached in it’s busy era would put the 50's traveling to shame. Hitchhikers were picked up as favors, whereas now they are avoided at all possible cost.

Travel memories might include the road trip you took. Most of the roads were dirt roads that would shake you to the bone when traveling on them. Depending on what time of the year you did the traveling getting stuck in the mud was literally the talk of the day - most especially in spring or fall. Considering that traveling had to be well planned as it would take a good part of the day to get where you were going, and what a relief when you did hit a part of the road that was paved. Of course today’s highways are in such excellent shape in most of the world that what used to take a day’s traveling now is reduced to a few hours and no place seems impossible to reach.

Years ago when you were traveling by plane it was not the procedure that you have to go through today. You walked to the plane with any baggage you wanted to take and placed yourself in the seat. At the time, there was a disadvantage to flying because smoking was allowed on planes, which left the ones that didn’t smoke in a blue cloud before they landed. Today’s flights are very different. Security is the utmost concern in any airlines itinerary to ensure that there is nothing taken on the plane to do harm to any of the passengers. Not only does your luggage get examined, but you will be examined as well. Today you have to arrive hours before your flight to check in and smoking is not allowed making you reminisce about travel memories in easier times.

Travel memories just have to include camping expeditions. Camping has seen drastic changes over the years. Once you went camping with canvas tents and usually if it rained you were laying in the direct path of the run off. Camping was out in the woods with no electricity or any other convenience, but now we have come a long way with the RV’s that are on the roads today. Like elegant homes, they have everything you need in comfort and to make all the things in your RV work we have campgrounds with full service, including TV hook up. Oh! for the days of yesteryear, I think not.
