Baby Boomer Dolls
Toys
There were many baby boomer dolls on the market in the 50's and 60's that would send squeals of delight from the one that would get them. Of course, Barbie and Ken dolls were the most popular of these. Barbie came with her own everything and the accessories you could buy seemed endless. Actually she has out done the baby boomers as she’s still as popular today as she was back then. She has grown up just a little while the baby boomers have grown up a lot, but they’re still young at heart in the memories they hold from playing with Barbie and Ken.
Among other baby boomer dolls were the all time favorites that gave hours of fun to anyone that owned them were the cut out dolls along with a cut out wardrobe that would keep the proud owner of these dolls busy for hours dressing and undressing these beautiful looking paper dolls. Some of these came made out of very sturdy cardboard while others were just paper, but either way it meant hours and hours of fun for the one that owned them.
Another baby boomer doll was Betsy Wetsy, to whom you could give real liquids. In turn, she expelled it and you’d have to change her, but she also could be put in the bathtub. Chatty Cathy had a pull string on back that made her talk, the Pebbles doll had a weighted bottom so she could sit in one place without falling over, and Thumbellina and Little Kiddles had a wind up knob on the back so that they would move just like a baby. Then there was Baby Dear who was soft and cuddly and looked like a newborn.
Baby Boomer dolls for boys included G.I. Joe that came with neat stuff and sported a silver metallic outfit, or you could have Captain Action that could turn into nine different action figures. Robot Commando shot ping-pong balls out of his arms and rockets out of his head. Then there was the Great Garloo a monster with green fish like scales that did nothing more than move back and forth and growl, but gave the ultimate fun to a little boy.
